MARBELLA EXPERIENCES

Caving

If you like strong emotions, jet skis are one of our activities with the highest dose of adrenaline.

Level: 1/3

Duration: 3 - 5 hours

All year

Igualeja

Marbella is very close to one of the most incredible geological sites in Europe.

The karst of the Sierra de las Nieves National Park has hundreds of caves and chasms, of which we find cavities of international reference as Sima GESM, which exceeds 1000 meters deep or the Sima del Aire, which has more than 13 kilometres of development, both being true jewels of speleology.

From TUUR we suggest that you get to know a good sample of the beauty of this underground world by visiting the caves of La Excéntrica and Fuensanta located in Igualeja, a beautiful white village in Malaga where the river Genal rises. These caves are ideal for groups of adults who want to enjoy caving, but also for families and children from 7 years old, as this cave does not require vertical progression with rope and the activity is adaptable to the different needs of our adventurers. Stalactites, stalagmites, lava flows, banners and columns are some of the speleothems or formations that we will see through the beautiful galleries sculpted by the waters over thousands of years. Our guides will describe the speleogenesis of the cave during the visit.

A speleological adventure made to measure for you. 3h00 or 5h00

Speleology is the sport-science that studies natural underground caves. Depending on the time you have available, we propose two options:

Cuevas de la Fuensanta + Excéntrica:

Both caves can be visited in the same morning, as they are 150 metres apart, although they are totally different: Fuensanta is a totally dry cave whose galleries are full of beautiful cave formations; with luck, we will even see some bats, but fear not, they are our friends. Excéntrica, on the other hand, is a cave with several underground lakes, so you will be wearing neoprene. The water gives this cave an exceptional beauty, as it makes the formations that decorate its majestic rooms sparkle. The total duration of the activity is 5 hours

Cueva de la Excéntrica: If you want to opt for a shorter activity.

We recommend that you only visit the cave of La Excéntrica. This activity has a total duration of 3 and a half hours.

Both options have an access and return path of 20 minutes. Among the materials that we will use are helmet, lighting, caving suit, neoprene, and bags to carry the material.

Enjoy caving all year round

The caves have a constant temperature that is around the average annual temperature outside the cave. These caves have an average temperature that fluctuates between 18 and 20 degrees, being cool in summer and warm in winter, so caving is an activity that can be enjoyed at any time of the year.

Other caves in southern Andalusia

Andalusia has an infinite number of caves, most of them reserved only for experts, but there are many other caves that can be enjoyed by inexperienced people who wish to live an underground adventure. Just one hour and twenty minutes from Marbella we have the Cueva del Agua and the Hoyo-Conique System, both in the town of Archidona, in the province of Malaga. On the other hand, we also offer caves and chasms for people with knowledge of the vertical progression technique of speleology, such as Sima Monda, located in the town of the same name, where you can enjoy its beautiful aragonite crystal flowers. Finally, if you want to learn the art of technical caving, learning how to use equipment and ropes to descend and ascend from the depths, we offer you the Caving Initiation Course from the hands of the best qualified technicians in this modality
