Canyon, abseiling and waterfalls in Ronda

The Tajo de Ronda canyon is unique in all Spain because it crosses completely the old city of Ronda and offers us unique views of its monuments, its bridges, its hanging houses, its irrigation ditches, its mills, out of the reach of tourists who visit Ronda on foot.

Our meeting point is in the most famous panoramic view of the city, in front of the New Bridge, the international emblem of all Malaga. There after distributing the wetsuits and equipment, we will go up to Ronda and cross the city on foot, having the opportunity to walk through its streets and gardens.

We begin our canyoning adventure in ‘El Puente Viejo’, after crossing the hanging gardens, near the Old Arab Baths and the defense wall that Ronda preserves. In this first section we will see the city from below, about 100 meters below its streets and the heads of tourists who look out into the canyon. It is a really beautiful and calm part in contrast to those that it offers us after passing under the third Bridge.

Perfect Canyon for those who loves high rappels

Just below the imposing New Bridge, exactly 98 meters high and built between 1751 and 1793, our first abseiling awaits us under a 35-meter waterfall. It is the most beautiful rappel in Andalusia.

After some jumps and progressing through a chaos of conglomerate stone blocks, we find the second rappel, also about 35 meters high. In this case it is a dry rappel in its first part and under the waterfall in its second.

In this last pool we will have the opportunity to make the highest jumps of the route of up to 9 meters for the bravest, 3 or 5 metres if you prefer smaller experiences.

More about Ronda Canyon

We recommend this canyon trip for those who do not have uncontrollable vertigo and have a certain degree of agility or previous rappelling experience to perform these descents with some ease. If you do sports with a little regularity you will feel very comfortable.

We also recommend reserve a paella at the Albergue El Molino from Ángeles. This beautiful old grain mill is located right at the end of the tour, next to the river Guadalevin and next to the parking lot. You will be hungry at this time and it will be the perfect moment to enjoy its terrace and its relaxed atmosphere. The full menu will be around 13 euros / p and if you want we can organize it for you.

The river of this canyoning is called Guadalevin. It is origin from an Arabic word (Wadi-al-Laban) which means Rio de la Leche. This river is born in the Sierra de las Nieves in the Cuerno gorge (where famous Pinsapo’s tree grow up), it joins the Fuenfría stream. It is the river that sculpted in the rock the famous Tajo that divides the city of Ronda in two. And finally ends at the Guadiaro river (river of the canyon of Las Buitreras). Almost all of its course is bellow to the Special Conservation Zone (ZEC).

Optional Via Ferrata Experience in Tajo Ronda

After eating, the ones who want to continue the adventure in this incredible big wall we have the option to climb a Vía Ferrata in the same Tajo, where the tourism can see you astonished from the bridge level.

Oher canyons trip in Costa del Sol

For initiation to canyoning we also recommend the Guadalmina canyon trip in Marbella. If you are looking for a higher level next to Ronda, you can found Buitreras Canyon (The Cathedral) with level 2.5 and an amazing natural spot.

Best activity ever done

I don’t usually write reviews but this is the best company for activities, the guides are really professional.
We are a group of 12 people who had a stag party in Marbella, TUUR is a professional company with great guides, for canyoning we had with us Sixto and Christian, and we had the owner Jose and another Jose with us with Via Ferrata, all of the guides are very funny passionate about their job and experts in their job. They made you feel safe and made sure that you will enjoy the maximum of the activities. They also made enough pictures for you so you don’t need to bring your own camera. (The pictures are made by them)

I highly recommend to book the activities with this company, they have good/new gear and that make you feel safe. The guides are great and the locations are so beautiful.

I definitely will book more activities at TUUR when I’m in Spain again.

Thank you again.

Special thanks to Jose M, Jose C, Sixto and Christian.
For making the best and unforgettable days in our lives.

Meet our team!

We’re happy to help
