Jorox: a canyon during the raining season
Locate in Sierra de las Nieves Natural Park, Jorox it’s an amazing canyong during autumn and spring time when the flow is important but controlled. Our professional canyoning guides will know exactly the right moment to lead you to this marvellous experience and enjoy Jorox in his maximum intensity.
Our TUUR Canyoning team usually recommends this canyon trip for participants who already have experience in this sport, and choosing the moment when the river has the perfect flow for you. The controlled force of water and the large amount of foam is a great attraction at those times.
This adventure trip can also be done at other times of the year, and it will be a dry or semi-dry canyon for lovers of this modality. It is an activity that does not take more than 1h30 or 2h00 depending on the number of participants or the flow level.
Jorox is the name of the village, of only 24 inhabitants, through which this river passes and located in the municipality of Alozaina (Málaga). Located at 50 minutes from Marbella or Malaga and 10 minutes from Yunquera where it is located in the Zarzalones canyoning (see Zarzalones, level 2-3).
30 metros de rapel y cascada
The final touch will be a 30 metres rappel below an incredible water fall who reach a wonderful round pool called Charca de la Caldera, a little paradise in the middle of the nature. Here our canyon trip ends and we return to the center of the little village of Jorox where we have parked the vehicles.
After this adventure, you may want to eat a good casserole cooked in Antonio’s fireplace. It is a gastronomy delicatessen, and we are waiting for our next outing to enjoy it.
(PS. To adventurers who want to go on their own, remember that this canyon and many others are dangerous with high flow and you have to master the techniques of this sport, and know the peculiarities of each of them).

Did you know this about Jorox?
As we have already indicated, Jorox is a village of only 24 inhabitants. It has its origin in the Upper Paleolithic period more than 18,000 years ago (in the stone age). The abundance of caves in a karst relief, together with the existence of springs, terraces conducive to collection and a mild microclimate, led to the formation of this town. There are several important and relevant findings for historiography and archaeology in the caves that surround this area.
Another curious note about Jorox is that there are still ruins of 7 flour mills that fed directly from the Jorox river. And there is no precedent for a similar concentration of mills in a confined space in the rivers and streams of the Rio Grande.
